The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and Italy's University Politecnico di Torino have collaborated on developing a novel survey intended to assist local authorities within the EU in implementing the EU Green Deal. This survey is designed to enhance comprehension regarding the primary focuses and obstacles in Urban Green Transitions.

The primary aim of this research is to provide insights to the upcoming European Commission about crucial policies and targets for cities within the EU. It contributes to a broader analysis on sustainability gaps conducted by the JRC. Specifically, the survey seeks to grasp the key priorities within the EU Green Deal framework and uncover the underlying structural factors and hindrances that might impede the attainment of these objectives.

Additionally, the survey endeavors to gather recommendations on which urban issues should take precedence in forthcoming urban-level policies. It also aims to compile exemplary instances of EU Green Deal implementation across the European Union.
